Technology Changes are Coming!

WHY ARE CHANGES COMING?

For some time, the reliability, flexibility and adaptability of the ClubLANE / MyLANE system and the APT hosted websites has been a significant concern to all within our sport. Twelve months ago, Swimming Australia and partners began looking at long term options, beyond the existing technology solution and provider, including a review of what similar sporting bodies are doing within Australia and internationally.

INTRODUCING ‘SWIM CENTRAL’ – THE NEW ONLINE SYSTEM!

Underpinned by a significant investment by Optus, work began in July of 2017 to specify a new technology solution – Swim Central.  Swim Central is being developed by Swimming for Swimming with input from key stakeholders from across the country.  Swim Central will over time, link all interactions with swimming into one portal. All States and Clubs will move to the new online CRM system, Swim Central, in April 2019, with ClubLane/MyLANE being turned off thereafter.  Between now and April 2019, further updates and information will be shared with Clubs/Regions.

NEW STATE / CLUB / REGION HOSTED WEBSITES

While the development of Swim Central is underway, a separate project is occurring to transition State/Club/Region websites to new providers.  These projects are all intertwined because of the transition to Swim Central.  Club/Region websites will be hosted by Interact Sport and are available to all affiliated Clubs/Regions – at no cost!  Clubs/Regions who already have an APT hosted website can begin to transition to their Interact Sport website from now and the deadline for transition is the end of April 2019.

We would encourage Clubs/Regions who don’t currently use an APT hosted website to consider the new Interact Sport hosted website.  The new website contains contemporary design and colours, with flexibility for clubs to personalise and stand out, a provision of high quality stock images and templates for use by all clubs, plus more great features.

What support will be available for Clubs/Regions?

Any Clubs/Regions who currently have an APT hosted website will need to transition across to a new Interact Sport hosted website by April 2019.  Unfortunately, the process to move your content to the new system cannot be fully automated (i.e. we can’t automatically recreate all of your pages without your help).  However, we will be able to move some of your existing files and images to your new Interact Sport website, and you will simply need to recreate your desired pages on your new website.  It’s a great chance to freshen up your content!

There will be a range of online tutorials and videos made available to Clubs/Regions and Interact Sport will provide assistance to Clubs/Regions throughout the transition process.  We encourage Clubs/Regions to transition as early as possible.

So what do I need to do?

  1. Club/Region Website Administrators are asked to please advise us when you are ready to transition to your new website.
    • Simply email us at admin.qld@swimming.org.au
    • Providing us with your website administrator's email address to receive website login details. Each club will be able to have multiple website administrators and each website administrator will have their own individual login details. You can use specific club committee position email addresses or personal email addresses.
  2. Club/Region Website Administrators will then be sent login details to access their new website, along with support materials to assist them.
    • Clubs/Regions with an APT hosted website will have access to some of their existing files and images
  3. Once Club/Region Website Administrators have setup their new website, they then notify Swimming Australia Online Support at support@swimming.org.au asking them to please publish their website.
  4. Swimming Australia Online Support will then advise the Club/Region Website Administrators the next steps for them to make their new website visible to the public.
