Member Benefits

Being a member of a swimming club not only a great way to make friends, have fun and learn important life skills it's also a great way to stay active and healthy - no matter your age! Swimming provides many lasting health benefits, including:

  • tones muscles and builds strength;
  • builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness;
  • helps maintain a healthy weight, healthy heart and lungs;
  • improved coordination, balance, posture and flexibility;
  • reduced risk of becoming overweight or obese; and
  • reduced risk of later developing heart disease, cancer and diabetes (type 2 diabetes is increasingly being found in adolescents).

Not only is swimming an important skill for our children to learn when being in and around the water is such an integral part of our Queensland lifestyle, but it has a great impact on their individual development as well. Swimming provides participants with:

  • valuable life skills such as goal setting;
  • personal strength, focus and discipline;
  • friendship and belonging;
  • teamwork and the most obvious benefit; and
  • the ability to potentially save one’s own life, or others if difficulties are encountered in an aquatic environment.

In addition to the physical and social benefits that swimming brings, there are also many benefits to being a member of a Swimming Queensland (SQ) Club.

  • Club Programs
  • Swimming Queensland offers a range of membership programs for our Clubs and their members to participate in. Each of the below programs are delivered by our Clubs on behalf of Swimming Queensland. If you have questions about how these programs are run at your Club make sure you get in contact with them.

    Speedo Swim Star Caps

    Speedo Swim Star Caps reward swimmers for their enthusiasm and commitment to swimming. Clubs are asked to nominate their Speedo Swim Stars each year based on their chosen criteria e.g. the most consistent trainer, the happiest squad member etc. Swimmers who are recognised as a Speedo Swim Star by their Club receive a Speedo Swim Star Cap, go in the draw to win a $500 Speedo pack (drawn in April each year) and are invited to attend a Speedo Swim Stars VIP event at the December Queensland Championships where they can mingle with some of our elite athletes and watch the races in style! A limited number of Speedo Swim Star Caps are provided to clubs each year, so chat to your Club to find out what your Club’s Speedo Swim Star criteria is for this season.

    Participation Ribbons

    Swimming Queensland provides Participation Ribbons to clubs for use at club nights and inter-club meets. These Participation Ribbons are given to junior competitors, recognising their participation & involvement in a swim meet, rather than focusing on winning.

    Key Ring Awards

    To reward and recognise our long-term swimmers, Swimming Queensland provides commemorative key rings to swimmers who have been registered with Swimming Queensland for 5 or 7+ consecutive years. Please note, membership across multiple clubs still qualifies an individual for a Key Ring Award.

    There are two types of Key Ring Awards; a 5-year key ring and a 7-year key ring. Each season, clubs inform Swimming Queensland if they have members who have achieved these milestones, so that we can provide them with the appropriate key ring to award to their member/s how they see fit. If you qualify for a 5-year or 7-year key ring award make sure you talk to your Club today.

    Service Pins

    Swimming Queensland provides 8-year, 15-year and 25-year Service Pins for non-swimming members such as Technical Officials, Coaches and Volunteers who have continuously supported their swimming community through service at a club, region and/or state level.

    Clubs will provide the information of members who fit the above criteria to Swimming Queensland. If you think you, or someone at your Club, is eligible for a Service Pin, make sure you talk to your Club today.

  • Competitions
  • If you’re registered as a competitive member, not only can you participate in club nights, you may also qualify to compete in a variety of different types of meets.

    Your Club, a nearby club or even your Region may hold a Development, Transition or Preparation meet. At these meets you might achieve the qualifying times for Regional Championships, State Preparation Meets, State Championships and even National Championships.

    Swimming Queensland provides Multi Class competition opportunities and encourage our Clubs to provide an inclusive space for swimmers with disability to compete at their events.
