Starting a Club
Club swimming is the strength and success of swimming in Queensland. We are very lucky that most of even the smallest of country towns have access to a local swimming pool, and at most of those swimming pools, you will find a local swimming club.
Swimming clubs are made up of swimmers, coaches, parents, officials and administrators, providing a fun and safe environment for kids and parents alike, many offering or having links to learn-to-swim schools, coaches and training, fun club race nights, and a strong social program.
If you are interested in starting a club, there are a few things that are required before starting a new club. These are:
- Incorporation under the Associations Incorporation Act or a sub-committee under a School P&C Association
- The adoption of the SQ-approved club constitution (unless the club is a sub-committee of a P&C Association). A copy of the club constitution can be found in the sub-heading The Constitutution in the web page Running a Club.
- A minimum number of 40 prospective members as required by SQ (with an exception to rural clubs)
- A list of Club Committee Members. An explanation of each of the roles within the Committee can be found under the Running a Club section of this website.
Your clubs application for affiliation will then need to be approved by the region which your club will reside in, before you can start participating in SQ meets and accepting members. Please allow an adequate amount of time for this.
To start a new club please contact Swimming Queensland on 3390 2011 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
