A 14-strong Queensland Swim Team has returned from its UK tour achieving outstanding results at the 2023 Swim England National Summer Meet.
The tour, supported by Hancock Prospecting, was an opportunity for Queensland’s next wave of swimmers to experience international travel and racing.
Out of the 53 events contested, Queensland swimmers won 26 Gold and 15 Silver medals.
The Queensland team placed first or first and second in every final they contested, this resulted in an amazing 71.7 percent personal best conversation rate, setting 38 new personal best times.
Twenty-year-old Bond backstroker, Layla Day led the rankings – winning the 50,100 and 200m backstroke treble in 28.17; 1:00.38 and 2:14.03 respectively as well as the 50m freestyle in 25.93.
While Jack Carr (St Andrew’s; Ash Delaney) and James Koch (Miami; Richard Scarce) were amongst a host of young men to stand out.
Carr’s best swim coming in the 100m butterfly in 52.08 as well as the 100m freestyle (49.58) and Koch, a member of the Australian Lifesaving team and a new face to the Gold Coast group at Miami from NSW, winning the 200/400m freestyle double – in 1:48.04 and 3:52.24 respectively.
