Swimming Queensland’s Director of Coaching Drew McGregor praised his coaches, the swimmers and the clubs.

“There were some great performances by all the Queensland athletes and coaches,” said McGregor.

“Congratulations to the St Peters club for winning the Age club score for a record time, and the Helensvale club (Head Coach Jon Cook) for again winning the Multi Class points score.”

“The Queensland athletes and clubs were dominant throughout the Championships winning 89 Gold, 92 Silver and 71 Bronze medals, with nearly 600 finalists, winning 49.4% of all medals.”

Leading the way individually were Jaclyn Barclay (St Peters Western, Coach Cameron Gledhill) and Flynn Southam (Bond, Coach Chris Mooney) with some outstanding results.

A dominant force in recent Age Championships Barclay again showed her full potential winning the 17 years backstroke treble over 50, 100 and 200m.

The 50m in 28.87, the 100 in 1.00.19 and the 200m in 2:09.09 in a perfect performance as the 17-year-old rising star and World Junior gold and World Championship silver medallist prepares for the Olympic Trials in Brisbane in June.

Southam opened his campaign winning the 18 years 400m freestyle in 3:52.13, adding the 200m freestyle in 1:46.43, before a back spasm forced him out of the 50m final, and then returning to win the 100m in 48.94.
