Georgina Hope Foundation Hancock Prospecting

Through the support of the Georgina Hope Foundation, Swimming Queensland (SQ) is able to deliver a variety of workshops and participation activities to outback children, allowing us to reach even the most regional and remote communities.

These activities include our:

  • Aquatic Participation Fun Days which provide learn-to-swim opportunities for children and adults with disability;
  • Make a Splash Days which provide learn-to-swim opportunities for children and adults from Indigenous or Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds;
  • Free Teacher Workshops which provide the practical competencies of the Swimming Australia Teacher qualification to anyone who’s interested in becoming a learn-to-swim teacher.

Through these clinics we are able to ensure a legacy of swimming education that benefits all Queenslanders by supporting more adults and children to be confident and safe in and around the water, as well as guide parents, guardians and teachers on how they can support their community in developing aquatic skills. In addition to the wider community benefits, the participants who attend these clinics provide physical, social and emotional advantages through the peer-interaction provided.

  • Aquatic Participation Fun Days
  • Aquatic Participation Fun Days provide a free opportunity for adults and children with disability to experience the enjoyment that water activities provide, gaining confidence in their aquatic skills in a relaxed and safe environment.

    Aquatic Participation Fun Days teach participants:

    • Water safety through land and water activities including game skills and novelty races;
    • Aquatic skills through targeted activities that focus on balance, breathing, buoyancy, submersion and mobility.

    Aquatic Participation Fun Days provide professional development for school teachers and learn-to-swim teachers on aquatic skills for any child or adult with disability. This professional development opportunity will enhance aquatic skills and provide practical examples to implement in swimming programs.

  • Teacher Workshops
  • Swimming Queensland Teacher Workshops are open to any person who may be interested in becoming a qualified swim teacher and provide the practical

    component of the Swim Australia Teacher qualifications. The entry level courses include Swim Australia Teacher (SAT), Swim Australia Teacher of Babies & Toddlers (SAT B&T) and Swim Australia Teacher of Competitive Strokes (SAT CS). Depending on your area of interest, you can choose to begin your journey with any of these three. If you’re aiming to become a coach the SAT CS would be your first step.

    We also offer opportunities to complete the practical components of the Swim Australia Teacher extension courses including Swim Australia Teacher Learners with Disability (SAT LWD), Swim Australia Teacher Adolescents and Adults (SAT AA)* and Swim Australia Teacher Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (SAT CALD)*.
